Water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes), is a floating aquatic plant that looks like small heads of lettuce. The leaves grow in a rosette pattern and are thick and fuzzy. Water lettuce will propagate smaller plants off of it in the warm, summer months. It can become invasive if left unchecked. It is considered an annual in Colorado. Zones 8-12
Care & Maintenance
Water lettuce is a very easy to care for pond plant. If you find that it is spreading too much, simply cut off or remove any extra plants from your water feature. This plant enjoys full sun to part shade.
